Thorough Examination Overview

Employers are legally required to ensure that all lifting equipment and lifting accessories are safe to use and therefore are required to have any lifting equipment or lifting accessory thorughly examined at a suitable interval to ensure that health and safety conditions are maintained and that any deterioration can be detected and remedied in good time.

Crane Express Services provide time served and qualified competent engineers to carry out thorough examinations of a wide range of lifting equipment and their various accessories. Our experience in the lifting industry along with our training ensures that we provide an indepth examination to cover all of the legal requirements of the regulations and their reference materials.

Regulations

The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998 are a detailed set of statutory regulations which impose health and safety requirements with respect to lifting equipment and lifting accesssories.

Regulation 7 requires lifting equipment and lifting accessories are to be clearly marked to enable safe and proper use.

Regulation 9 requires lifting equipment and lifing accessories to be examined periodically by a comptetent person whilst in service or after exceptional circumstances have occured.

Regulation 10 requires a Report of Thorough Examination to then be generated and supplied to the owner of the equipment or accessory.

Examination Intervals

The statutory maximum intervals are 6 months for all lifting accessories or cranes that either work in harsh environments or are for the lifting of people and 12 months for lifting equipment working in a regular industrial environment.

These maxmimum intervals can be reduced to take into account enviromental factors, the general age and condition of the crane an increased usage of the lifting equipment. This reduction in interval can be made by the competent person, crane owner or crane user.

Reports

Crane Express Services have implemented an industry leading compliance software system which provides total control of the inspection compliance process. Our system produces electronic Reports of Thorough Examination which exceed the legal aspects required by the regulations, our reports have been developed in conjunction with the experts at The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA).

Our client Web Portal provides instant access to reports inclusive of defects and inspection detailing. Additionally our clients can access detailed graphical analytic data and download reports, view their equipment register and historical examination data. Our inbuilt defect tracker provides an overview of all outstanding defects and details upcoming examinations.

We recently invited the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to our premises to fully audit our procedure of recording data from Thorough Examinations to ensure that we are providing the best possible solution for our customers.

Repairs

Crane Express Services offer a fully robust post examination repair service should it be required.

Upon completion of the examination we will generate and submit our Report of Thorough Examination, should any defect be found then we will also quote for remedial work.

Lifting accessories are more susceptible to damage through usage. If any defects are found we immediately make note of the defect, the type and characteristics of the accessory and submit a quote for immediate replacement.

We feel that this consistant and structured approach to the identification and then rectification of the defect benefits our customers greatly as we are then able to construct a defect and repair history for each piece of lifting equipment.
